Bope (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais) is Portuguese for Special Police Operations Battalion). This elite unit of 400 highly trained troops are Brazils's front line defense against ruthless drug lords, undead uprisings and M-Bomb factories

We were granted access to follow them on operations and talk to their members for this exclusive report.

Bope recently made news following the spectacular rescue of 23 Special Forces troops trapped in their downtown Rio de Janeiro head quarters.

On November 25th. 2009 a small undead rising swelled to over 300 reanimated corpses roaming downtown Rio de Janeiro's busy streets. Many local citizens seeked shelter within the heavily armed operations HQ building.

The 23 soldiers stationed there valiantly suppressed overwhelming odds for 8 hours before a unit of Bope soldiers were able to take back the city and rescue all inside.

Only 5 Bope soldiers died that day, 2 of these by friendly fire. 6 civilians also fell to the ferocious assault. All 327 undead were re killed in the ensuing rescue operation.

In the one week we were allowed with Bope, we traveled with a special unit temporarily garrisoned in Curitiba. Home town ZWN field correspondent Gabriel Silva joined us on those missions.

Fast food raid

We were invited along as spectators whilst they raided a small fast food restaurant in Curitaba. The owner and several customers had recently fallen victim to the Necro-Mortosis virus. This unusual series of multiple risings within a small locality had led authorities to believe that a possible M-Bomb factory was somehow involved.

The raid did in fact turn up a makeshift factory producing the highly illegal M-Bomb. By splicing 15 mg of amphetamines with 15 mg of the 'Necro-Mortosis.' virus. the result produces a temporary high that after only a few uses can lead to full blown Mortosis and reanimation within 48 hours.

Fortunately, the restaurant in question was unpopular with the locals. This meant that the outbreak was not as sever as it may have been in a more frequented establishment.

M-Bomb 'store front' shut down

In Tocantins a low key drug store was shut down for selling the M-Bomb drug to tourists. The owner was killed whilst resisting arrest.

Drug cartel eliminated by BOPE raid

In Mato Grosso, a violent operation to break up a local drug cartel renowned for it's M-Bomb trafficking ended with 17 gang members and 1 Bope soldier being killed

Headless undead discovered
1/31/10
Back in Curitiba, 5 headless corpses, all who tested positive for the Necro-Mortosis virus were discovered in a remote field. A group of local men were arrested by Bopa.

Brazil does not recognize the UN 'Code of Conduct' on how to treat reanimates and Mortosis sufferers, and so all were released with a only 500 pesos fine.

Secret tunnel reveals major M-Bomb ring

It seems that most of South Americas drug cartels are now switching heavily ito the lucrative area of M-Bomb manufacturing.

This was underlined on the last day of our allocated time with Bope, when a secret tunnel and clandestine operation was discovered in Rio Grande do Norte.

The shear scope of the illegal factory operation was astounding, even to seasoned veterans like Capt. Alexandro Renan. "The had several miles of underground tunnels. It must have taken a long time to dig these. They also had sophisticated extraction techniques for drawing the Necro virus out of the undead. They kept them in stocks. Like medieval dungeons. They also had a private army of over 50 men guarding it all."

Bloody battle
In fact, that same private army held off a unit of 35 Bope soldiers for several hours before C-4 canisters were to finally force them to surrender. Up to a dozen gang members were killed along with 3 Bope soldiers.
