Miami Police officials released a statement saying that the undead has been identified as 32 year old Santiago Marino, a Cuban national living in Haiti. It is not known at this time how Marino either became infected or adrift at sea. But it is thought he may have been one of hoards of Haitian boat people attempting to flee Port-Au-Prince to avoid the carnage of the last few months. The spokesperson went on to add that Marino was able to stay afloat for so long due to his decaying bodies slow release of gasses. This kept him buoyant throughout his journey. There also have been several reports of 'floaters' off the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, along with the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, but none have ever traveled with the current this far before. The police spokesperson concluded by assuring the public that Miami's beaches were safe for swimmers. However, she did add that the public must remain vigilant and report any sightings immediately. The condition of the bitten coast guard official is unknown. He was transferred to a Florida hospital quarantine unit late this afternoon. |
