Florida Lifts Two Year Halloween Ban

Welcome news for Floridian's - Following the States second year since it's category Level 'A' Undead quarantine was lifted, Florida Governor Charlie Crist announced today that the state is reversing it's two year ban on Halloween festivities.

Although a total ban was never enforced, Florida's Police did impose hefty fines on many party goers who despite the ban, still celebrated in costume. The reason for the ban was simple. In the wake of Florida's quarantine of 07, the Police had a tough time distinguishing party goers from actual undead.

The problem did not begin and end with Police, Mark Gleeson (21) and Jason Bentchley (20) were both killed by Nathaniel Tarcher (56) after he mistook them for roaming Undead. Teacher has currently served two years of a nine year sentence for manslaughter.

Real or costume?
Police argued that, in a dimly lit street and given only seconds to decide, could you make the right call?

"It was the right call for the right time" Governor Crist said.

Many city run 'Haunted houses' were allowed to function in Florida, and costume shops continued to sell their goods, this did lead to some confusion as to what was and was not considered illegal.

Georgia, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, and Alabama also imposed similar bans. At this point, dressing up in costume resembling the living dead is still banned in these states. Other costumes are allowed. Halloween celebrations are also permitted. However, Police are adamant that reanimate costumes are still a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $2500.

Last Halloween, a combination of 76 revellers in costume were arrested and charged with the offence of 'impersonating an undead.'
