to Ban Halloween |

Following last weeks Florida state wide ban on celebrations for Halloween, many other east coast states are following with similar ordinances. Georgia, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, and Alabama have pushed through emergency rulings effectively banning Halloween costumes within their respective states. "It's not a total ban" said Governor Charlie Crist responding to questions today. City approved haunted houses and events can go ahead. But costumes and private parties are not allowed this year. Anyone who hosts a private Halloween party will be risking a heavy fine. It will be a misdemeanor offence." "I wish the Governor would explain that to my 5 year old daughter when I have to tell her that there will be no trick or treating this year" said Maria Lomas, one of a dozen mothers protesting the move outside city hall today. A spokesperson for the Governor said last week that "at this point, the Governor feels it would be unwise to allow celebratory parties and functions of this nature. The police have a difficult time right now responding to hundreds of 911 calls every hour from people concerned that they may have seen someone of a suspicious and deceased nature. Most of these calls are unfounded.The chaos caused by people adopting ghoulish dress would make it almost impossible for emergency services and the national guard to distinguish a costume from a real undead." Miami is in a quarantine situation. All non essential traffic is prohibited within the effected boundaries. Residents are allowed to leave the area, but please be advised that you will face long waits at government processing centers before an exit visa is permitted.
