Hurricane Stalls Exodus.
Tempers Flair at UN.

A 'mini' hurricane exceeding 65 knots passed through Florida's gulf coast region today. In doing so, it scuttled the hopes of an estimated 2000 small boats attempting to flee the undead infested regions of Cuba and reach the US mainland.

The weather may actually have come as a welcome break to US Coast Guards. Their resources have been stretched thin over the last few days. But now with the help of newly arrived naval resources they hope to be able to re group and apply a more effective quarantine around Cuba.

War of words:
Diplomatic pressure and heated invective is still being leveled towards the US. In particular, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. She was on the receiving end of a harsh speech delivered with unusually candid asperity by Russian President Putin today when both attended an emergency UN meeting, the partial intention of which was ironically to cool the rhetoric and unify the approach to the Cuban situation.

Putin, who is seemingly adopting an increasingly hostile stance towards America, accused the US of "Without the backing of the UN, single handedly adopting the role of 'world Police'. Putin then continued by questioning America's motive: "Will the US stop with a quarantine? or use the opportunity to remove another political thorn from it's side?".

Political concerns:
Privately, many inside Washington are worried that Putin's new hard line will create an isolationist state once more, in an effort to defend itself from the Undead plague. However, Russia has encountered relatively few outbreaks of Mortosis since initial infestations were detected early and effectively wiped out. In fact the last flair up was a containment breach back in May.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice fired back with "Russia has certain preferential geopolitical aspirations. This sort of comment is entirely self serving. It is nothing more than political grandstanding".

Western political analysts are in agreement and recognition that contradictions and disputes can emerge in U.S.-Russian relations, but today's tone is considered unusually hostile.

Weather:
The hurricane warning is said to stay throughout the evening. All small crafts and sea going vessels are advised to stay within port. Any vessel leaving for Cuba will be seized and the occupants arrested according to a US Naval Coast Guard statement issued today.
