Un-Dead' - Growing Menace to Florida Fishermen. Mike Summerbee, Captain of the trawler 'Elain Blue' stared in shock when his days haul was emptied on the deck of his small vessel yesterday. There amongst the tuna and squid was a thrashing, moaning human being. Or at least the bloated remnants of one. His crews first instinct was to free it from the net and run to aid it. How did a live person get caught in his catch? Was he a survivor from a stricken vessel? Did he fall overboard a passing ship? Fortunately, captain Summerbee was able to recognize the floundering, pitiful figure for what it was. It was a fully reanimated corpse. He had caught a living dead. He was able to stop his crew from aiding the flailing corpse. Instead he threw a net over it. From there they were able to bludgeon it to submission and a return to it's natural state with the aid of long fish hooks.

"There is little we can do except stress due diligence on the part of the crews who fish these free waters." said a spokesperson for the International fishing and game association. We just hope that as these cases become more aware to the general public then extra care will be taken to ensure caution examining their catch." The spokesperson
went on to stress that the Necro-Mortosis virus responsible for reanimation
of the dead is not a threat to other food chains. "Our fish are
safe to eat. There is no evidence of cross species infection." |
