Broome Faces Lockdown

A temporary state of quarantine was imposed on the tourist town of Broome late last night. This is following the confirmed report of 'as many as' twenty undead having escaped from a shipping container at the Broome Port. According to Port officials, the container, registered from Thailand, was inventoried as carrying excavating machinery loaned to a Canberra based Thai construction company.

Port Authority storage supervisor Carter Mason, was the first to open the container. "We had a report of a moaning sound inside one of our crates, we called Port Authorities and took a look. We noticed the seal had not been broken since shipping from Thailand, so we figured it may have been illegal's who were in bad shape. 'It was a huge shock' he continued, "We opened it and instinctively I ran for it, we all did". The eight workers at the port on night shift quickly departed the dock and alerted the Broome police, who called in all available police officers in the area. Port security was able to secure some of the points of exit until police arrived, however, none of the undead have as yet been traced.

It is believed the reanimates may have moved into the scrub and beaches close by the port, which is surrounded by water on three sides.

Residents were urged to remain indoors and roadblocks and detours have been set up on all major intersections leading in and out of Broome. Two Zombie Hunting Teams have been requested and are currently en route from Perth to assist police in the neutralization of the infected. Chief of Broome Police, Richard Southern, said there are plans to temporarily lockdown the town if the situation dictates. 'We urge all residents and tourists to stay indoors and call the police to anything suspicious' he said. "A red alert usually used in tropical cyclones situations has been declared, meaning any member of the public must stay indoors until the alert is cancelled.

Questions remain at this point, as to the intention behind smuggling reanimates from Thailand. A police spokesperson said Thai police were assisting in all investigations.
