My Thanks…
In any conflict, there are always individuals and groups that rise to
the occasion yet seem to fall through the cracks when it comes to gaining
recognition for their efforts. The global struggle against Necro-Mortosis
is no different. I would like to take a moment to offer my thanks to
some of our current crop of unsung heroes for all they do and continue
to do in the struggle against the plague. This is by no means a comprehensive
list, and there are many other such people out there doing their all
to keep us safe and help us deal with the aftermath an infection on
our soil can bring.
To the Coast Guard, National Guard and Air National Guard, I extend
my thanks for your efforts in keeping our borders, skies and beaches
safe. These have always been much-maligned and sneered-at forces in
America’s “warrior cultures”. Under-funded, under-manned
and under-appreciated, they have trudged on, fighting crime, drug trafficking
and illegal immigration with little in the way of public recognition
for their service. Now they have the arduous task of keeping the plague
from our borders. I would also like to extend my thanks to the various
state and federal border enforcement agencies as well. It amazes me
how much responsibility we charge these people with and how little we
truly appreciate them.
There’s a little support group based in Tempe, AZ, known as Survivors
of the Dead. Their membership is small, though unfortunately it seems
to grow daily. The Survivors are a network of just that; the spouses,
children and other relations of Americans that have lost a loved one
to the plague. They have established a scholarship fund for surviving
children, operate donation drives to fill care packages for U.S. and
foreign troops alike fighting the plague around the world and offer
counseling through a network of mental health professionals sympathetic
to the particular ravages of the mind seeing a loved one reanimated
can bring. To the Survivors, my hat is off to you, and my donation check
is in the mail.
There’s a certain diverse rock star out there that has created
and personally funds a group of young performers called “Straight
Talk”. Through music, motivational speaking and plain, honest
Q&A, this group of dedicated young people travel the country to
schools and communities to talk to children of all ages about the facts
and myths of Necro-Mortosis and the walking dead. While many public
schools simply refuse to invite them for fear of parental backlash,
many private schools and tight-knit communities keep the troupe busy
with performance requests. The group accepts absolutely no payment in
any form and gets their funding directly from said artist. He’s
a very private man, and I know he would rather I not reveal his name
here. All I can say is that he truly lives up to his name, and he has
my gratitude and my support should he ever need it.
Now, I know I can’t be the only one that knows about compassionate,
selfless patriots like these, so now I challenge each and every one
of you out there. If you know of other individuals and groups like these,
write to me through the article comment link below and tell me about
them. If I can verify them, I will make certain they gain mention in
future articles. The plague cannot be defeated by mere military might
and medical marvels alone. Compassion and hard work on the civilian
side must be brought to bear as a compliment to bullets and hard science
if America, nay the human race, is ever to claim victory over Necro-Mortosis.
These patriots and heroes need to be honored and recognized for what
they’re doing. They are the light in these the darkest times man
has known since the Black Plague. To help them, is to help us all.
Arthur Helms is a syndicated columnist who has dealt with a host of
social and political issues. His previous syndicated column, “Logic,
Please?” offered commentary on a host of world-view issues as
seen through the cold yet bright light of plain logic, demonstrated
fact and simple common sense.
While
the academic and political elite often dismissed his commentary as “too
simplistic” for our complicated times, his books of collected
columns and hundreds of national speaking engagements each year attest
to his connection to a readership yearning for simple answers to complex
issues. Helms recently ended his syndicated column to sign on exclusively
with Zombie World News, providing a fresh, logical,
plain-English view of the plague and to bring some common sense to what
many perceive to be a senseless situation.
