Belfast Docks Outbreak.
Quarantine in Effect

Belfast, N. Ireland, UK
Posted: 18th, July. 2009

ZWN correspondent - M. Dunn

Reports are surfacing of a 'Level B' undead outbreak at the Harland & Wolff shipping yard in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

At approximately 3.30am this morning local Police received a phone call from
security guards, who had apparently locked themselves within a secure part of the docks vast northern loading area.

According to early information released at a hastily arranged press conference by Harland & Wolf, a loan reanimate was identified wandering in the lower northern container area of the ship yard. It was observed and followed by security personal for 15 minutes as other security offers did a sweep of the immediate vicinity. This initial search yielded the further discovery of the partial remains of another as yet unidentified person. At this point, local Police were called.

Armed officers were able to corner and neutralize the mortosis infected individual. A battalion of over 100 soldiers were quickly dispatched to cordine off the immediate area.

Quarantine in effect
According to Police, a temporary quarantine of the immediate dock area has been implemented. Police spokesperson John Lennighan "This does not affect the whole facility at this point, just the ground zero northern container yard" A wider quarantine will go into affect if it is deemed necessary." he added

Lennighan went on to praise the diligence of the security guards who "although unarmed, and untrained in this sort of situation, acted selflessly and with disregard for their own safety to ensure that this reanimate could be tracked, re killed and identified by armed Police officers."

Police authorities have not yet released the identity of the undead, nor elaborated on the humans remains found at the site.

Bad news for Docks
The news of a necro-mortosis contaminated dock facility is a hard blow for Harland & Wolff. They have a long and proud tradition of ship building in Belfast. Most famously for building HMS Titanic, The Royal navies HMS Belfast and P&O's SS Canberra. However, in recent years, due to restructuring, it has turned it's focus away from ship building to being increasingly involved in ship repair, as well as the construction of off-shore equipment such as oil platforms and wind farms. The thought of a protracted quarantine at such a heavy industry plant could have a significant negative financial impact.

What is a Category Level 'B' outbreak?

These outbreaks are the second highest priority because:
They are fairly easy to spread
They result in a moderate rate of death and/or low death rates
They require specific enhancements of Center for Disease Control's laboratory capacity and enhanced disease monitoring.
